About
Bergenfield Mayor’s Wellness Campaign: A Model for Community Health The Bergenfield Mayor’s Wellness Campaign (MWC) is a borough-wide initiative committed to helping residents live healthier physically, mentally, and emotionally. Proudly aligned with the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute’s Mayors Wellness Campaign, our program is part of a statewide effort launched in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities to empower local leaders to prioritize community health. The Mayors Wellness Campaign was launched in 2006 by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute (NJHCQI). In Bergenfield, the campaign is led by the Mayor, who serves as MWC Chair, along with a dedicated local Wellness Committee. While the statewide initiative refers to “Mayors” to reflect participation across many municipalities, Bergenfield’s program is uniquely shaped and driven by one Mayor’s commitment to promoting wellness, equity, and community spirit through inclusive, year-round programming. From free fitness and nutrition classes to youth programs, senior wellness visits, mental health outreach, and multicultural community events, the Bergenfield MWC continues to champion a healthier, more connected borough. To make wellness accessible to all, we collaborate and bring our activities directly into the community. The Bergenfield Public Library, Bergenfield High School, Hoover Elementary School, VFW Hall, Senior Center, Memorial Park, and Borough Hall are just some of the venues we use to host our free health and wellness events for residents of all ages. In recognition of these collaborative efforts, Bergenfield was invited to present at the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Conference in Atlantic City, where we shared our best practices in advancing local health and wellness. We also received the Healthy Town Designation, recognizing the ongoing collaboration between municipal departments, volunteer committees, local organizations, and residents who make this campaign a successful community-wide effort. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant Bergenfield.
