About Department

The Borough Clerk is appointed by the Mayor and Council.  By virtue of the position, the Borough Clerk serves as a liaison between the governing officials and the residents, prepares the meeting agendas, records the minutes of the Council meetings, and processes resolutions and ordinances adopted by the Council in accordance with State statutes.  In the absence of the Borough Clerk, the Deputy Borough Clerk assumes all the duties.

The Borough Clerk is the custodian of the municipal seal and maintains custody of all minutes, books, bonds, contracts, archival records of the municipality, and processes OPRA requests.

Licenses for raffles and bingos, limousines, towing, and various annual liquor licenses are issued through the Borough Clerk’s office.  Organizations may apply at the Borough Clerk’s office for bingo and raffle licenses, which must be approved by the Council and are subject to the rules and regulations of New Jersey’s Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission.  Liquor Licenses are issued upon Police Department review and Council approval.

The Clerk is the Election Official for the Borough; provides voter registration applications, issues and receives nominating petitions for Borough elective offices, conducts local elections and certifies the results.

In addition to the statutory requirements of the position, the Clerk’s office processes block party applications, solicitor, peddler and film permit applications.

The Clerk’s office is always willing to help residents and direct any inquiries to the appropriate department.

FAQs

You can submit an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request through the Borough Clerk’s Office. Forms are available online or at Borough Hall. Once your request is received, our team will guide you through any applicable fees and provide the documents as quickly as possible within the statutory time frame. If more time is needed, an extension may be requested.

Meeting dates, agendas, and minutes are posted on our website under the “Documents” or “Council Meetings” section. You can also contact the Clerk’s Office if you need past meeting records or hard copies.

As the primary election official, the Borough Clerk can guide you to voter registration forms, Vote By Mail applications, and polling location details, as well as assist candidates and voters throughout the election process. While the Superintendent of Elections is responsible for voter registration, the Board of Elections hires all poll workers, and the County Clerk oversees candidate applications and ballots, our staff is here to help you find the correct resources and ensure you receive the information you need.

You can call us directly at (201) 387-4055 ext 6 during regular office hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM). You’re also welcome to email or visit Borough Hall in person if you need assistance.
