FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BERGENFIELD, NJ – The Borough of Bergenfield invites residents to join in a unique day of patriotism, history, and cultural celebration on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with two special ceremonies honoring both American Flag Day and Philippine Independence Day.
The day’s events begin at 1:00 PM at Historic Cooper’s Pond, where Bergenfield will partner with the Bergenfield Elks Lodge and the Bergenfield Museum Society to commemorate Flag Day at one of the Borough’s most treasured historic sites.
Cooper’s Pond is one of Bergenfield’s oldest landmarks, with a rich history dating back to a time before the Borough’s incorporation. The event serves as an opportunity to honor both the American flag and the historical significance of an area that helped shape the community we know today. By hosting this celebration at Cooper’s Pond, Bergenfield pays tribute not only to our nation but also to the generations of residents whose stories are woven into the history of this remarkable location.
The Flag Day celebration will feature a patriotic presentation, exhibits highlighting local history, portions of the patriotic float created by the Bergenfield Lions Club in memory of the late Joe Verga, and Bergenfield’s popular 1776 Photo Booth and patriotic backdrop, where families can capture memories while celebrating America’s heritage and the upcoming 250th Anniversary of the United States.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the Bergenfield Museum, which will be open during the event. The museum remains free and open to all visitors, offering residents and guests a chance to explore Bergenfield’s rich history through exhibits, artifacts, and stories that showcase the community’s growth and heritage. The Borough encourages everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn more about the people and events that helped shape Bergenfield.
At 3:00 PM, the celebration will continue at Bergenfield Borough Hall with a formal American Flag Day dedication followed by the raising of the Philippine Flag on the Borough’s guest
flagpole in recognition of Philippine Independence Day and Bergenfield’s vibrant Filipino-American community.
The ceremony will include special recognition of Bergenfield High School Principal Robert Ragasa for his leadership and service to Bergenfield’s students and families. The Borough will also welcome representatives of the Philippine Consulate General, who will participate in the program and offer special remarks commemorating Philippine Independence Day and the contributions of Filipino-Americans to Bergenfield and the nation.
Mayor Arvin Amatorio stated, “Bergenfield is proud to celebrate both our nation’s flag and the rich diversity that makes our community strong. By honoring American Flag Day at historic Cooper’s Pond and raising the Philippine Flag at Borough Hall, we recognize both our shared history and the many cultures that contribute to Bergenfield’s success. These celebrations reflect the spirit of unity, pride, and respect that define Bergenfield.”
Residents are encouraged to attend both ceremonies and join in a day that celebrates patriotism, local history, cultural pride, and community unity.
The American Flag Day Celebration will take place at Historic Cooper’s Pond at 1:00 PM, followed by the American Flag Day Dedication and Philippine Flag Raising Ceremony at Bergenfield Borough Hall at 3:00 PM.
Both events are free and open to the public.
