The Borough of Bergenfield is proud to announce that it has once again been awarded the prestigious Healthy Town Designation for 2025—earning the program’s highest ranking for the second consecutive year. This continued recognition highlights Bergenfield’s unwavering commitment to building a healthier, more connected, and more resilient community for all residents.
This achievement is the result of a comprehensive, data-driven Mayor’s Wellness Campaign that has evolved into a model for community health initiatives across the state. By focusing on physical health, mental and social well-being, and preventive care, Bergenfield has implemented innovative programming that meets residents where they are and supports the whole person.
Over the past year, more than 12,000 residents actively participated in over 130 wellness classes, programs, and community events. These initiatives ranged from fitness and nutrition workshops to mental health awareness programs and social engagement opportunities. A standout event, the Borough’s Municipal 5K, brought together residents of all ages and fitness levels, reinforcing the importance of physical activity while strengthening community bonds.
Bergenfield’s approach to wellness is rooted in inclusivity and accessibility. The Borough continues to expand multilingual health education resources to serve its diverse population, while also offering free health screenings and vaccination clinics to ensure residents have access to essential preventive care. In addition, financial wellness workshops and educational programming have been introduced to help individuals and families build long-term stability and success.
Special attention has been given to supporting vulnerable populations, including seniors, low-income households, and new immigrant communities. Through targeted outreach and tailored programming, Bergenfield ensures that all residents—regardless of background—have access to the tools and resources needed to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
Mayor Arvin Amatorio reflected on the significance of this achievement:
“Receiving the highest honor for the second consecutive year is a testament to our community’s commitment to overall wellness. What began as a six-week initiative focused on physical health has grown into a comprehensive effort—expanding to provide our residents with meaningful resources and programming that support not only physical well-being, but also mental health and financial health. In Bergenfield, we understand that a truly healthy community means supporting the whole person, and we remain dedicated to building a stronger, healthier future for all.”
The Borough extends its sincere appreciation to all municipal departments, community partners, volunteers, and residents who contributed to this accomplishment. Their collective efforts continue to shape a culture of wellness that will benefit Bergenfield for years to come.
