The Borough of Bergenfield has recently received multiple complaints regarding signs placed in residential areas, including political signs in public rights-of-way and signs advertising personal businesses in locations where they may violate Borough ordinances.
Residents and property owners are reminded that Borough Ordinance § 186-48 regulates signs and their placement within residential areas. These regulations help maintain the character of our neighborhoods and ensure that signs are placed in accordance with Borough requirements.
🏡 What residents should know:
🔹 Business Advertising: Business advertising signs are restricted in residential areas as provided by Borough ordinance.
🔹 Political Signs: Political signs on private property are subject to applicable time restrictions, including the 30-day period before Election Day specified in the ordinance. Signs may not be placed in public rights-of-way where prohibited.
🔹 Construction Signs: Signs related to construction being performed on a property may be permitted subject to applicable Borough requirements.
🔹 Public Rights-of-Way: Signs placed within public rights-of-way may violate Borough regulations. Residents should ensure that signs are placed only in locations where they are permitted.
The Borough asks all residents, candidates, businesses, and property owners to review the applicable regulations and ensure their signs comply with local requirements.
